TourXOz 2017

September 16 to 23, 2017 TourXOz will once again host a very special event.

This will be the 4th TourXOz event and the second time Entoure has been engaged to manage the logistical components of the TourXOz ride. The ride is in support of the Black Dog Institute and raises important funds for improved health outcomes for people suffering from a mental illness.

How Does It Work ?

80 Riders and around 30 support crew will make their way to WA from all over Australia (but predominately the East Coast) and over 8 days cover 2500 K between Perth and Broome. Riders will cycle around 150 K a day for 8 days before jumping on a bus and being taken to their respect hotels where massage teams and additional support staff await.

The Route

Riders will be split into 1 of 4 Pelotons and visit the towns of Fremantle, Geraldton, Denham, Carnarvon, Coral Bay, Karratha, Port Headland, 80 Mile Beach, Broome.

Check out the proposed route here and take a peak at the high level map image below.

The Reconnaissance

The Reconnaissance for this event kicks off tomorrow and the main things I will be looking for include:

  1. the route from a rider and safety standpoint
  2. potential issues that could impact consent
  3. bedding and food options from start to finish
  4. bus and bike uplift strategies
  5. car, bus and truck hire options
  6. access to drinkable water in some of the more remote towns
  7. the x factor; the stuff that will blow riders minds

By the end of the next 7 days, I will have a very clear strategy on how I want this event to run and what some of the hurdles might be in making it all happen. My plane leaves from Sydney for Perth tomorrow morning at 8.25 am and I cant wait; there really is something very special about the magnitude of TourXOz.

A summary of the reconnaissance will be posted here on completion.
