Training Ride

Training rides give everyone an opportunity to meet fellow riders and to get a better understanding of what lay ahead in terms of fitness and peloton etiquette.

As we near an event, its important all new riders make at least one of these rides to ensure they are prepared for the journey ahead and are appropriately graded.

When will the rides start ?

Sunday Rides
(phone Aaron 0437729603 /Franco0412504417 /Simon 0411131751 for the rest):

  • Sunday 12th September
Mt Tambourine and Green Mountain (o’Reillys Guesthouse) – 115 k
    www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/O-Reillys-via-Tambourine

    Meet
at 5:30am in the park on the corner of Beaudesert Beenleigh Rd, Waterford Tambourine Rd and Tambourine Mountain Rd.  This is a decent 115km ride which will commence from Beaudesert and will cover a section of Day 1’s course so will be a good chance to see some of the route.  We need to be back down from O’Reillys before the tourist buses start their trip up, so it is an early start.  We will take a break at the top of O’Reillys.  The length will depend on the arrival time of the last rider.

  • Sunday 26th September
    Kirra>Mudgeeraba>Springbrook>Natural Arch>Numinbah Valley>Chillingham>Terranorra>Kirra  – 130km

Note: We are looking for volunteers to drive a support vehicle with the riders!!  Please let Aaron know if you have someone willing ! If we don’t get a support vehicle, we’ll need to re-consider this ride, as its too remote to risk anyone
    www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Springbrook-Numinbah-Valley

Meet at 6am in the on-street parking just north of Currumbin surf club, on the coast.  This is a difficult 130km ride, again with some of it covering parts of Day 1’s route.  This will be the last large hilly ride before the event, so this will be the last chance you will have to see what you’re up for.  Planned early enough to let you recover.  We will have designated meeting points along the way and this will be very much about covering the distance, no concerns about speed.

  • Sunday 3rd October
Mt Nebo, this time via Samford and the goat track – 80km.

Meet at Garage at 6am.  Depending on how everyone pulls up from the week before, we’ll go back out to Mt Nebo.  If not, we’ll head somewhere flatter.  Please leave the carbon wheels at home today, as the Goat Track is a well-graded, well-packed dirt road.

  • Sunday 10th October
Brisbane to Gold Coast ride – 100km
    www.bq.org.au/b2gc100

This is an organised ride by Bicycle Queensland.  If you want to do this ride, please enter on the website above.  For those who are wanting to do a little bit more, there will be a group riding back to Brisbane – 200km for the day.
