Josh Wins Local Award
Some of you may remember that in the 2010 Hunter Valley ride, Josh Williams (my nephew) rode 115 k on Day 2 of the ride and raised an incredible $1,800 for the Day of Difference Foundation. His efforts were amazing to all who attended and have now been recognised by his local community.
Josh received local media coverage through the Hornsby Advocate who subsequently thought Joshua’s story was that significant that they would recommend him for the local Business Achievers Awards held October 19, 2010.
Joshua took on the 115 k challenge at age 14 and completed the journey despite only having ridden a road bike on 4 previous occasions. His father (my brother) competes and supports all our events and has been a previous Yellow Leader Jersey Winner (so not a bad mentor / coach); and trained Joshua indoors; simply because it was safer and more time effective whilst Joshua did his school work.
Joshua has since been recognised by his school and his achievement is soon to be mirrored by a young Queensland rider in the upcoming Kingscliff tour in 2011. All Hail Josh for taking on the challenge; raising funds for critically injured kids; and motivating others to do the same.
